-- What is a point or spot repair?

A structural fix for one bad section.

A point repair — also called a spot repair — is a trenchless fix for an isolated section of damaged pipe. Instead of lining or excavating the whole run, we install a structural repair sleeve across just the defect: a crack, a break, an offset joint, or root intrusion.

A resin-saturated sleeve is positioned on a packer, set precisely at the damaged area, and cured in place into a hard, structural patch that bonds to the host pipe. The rest of the line is left untouched. It’s the fastest, most economical way to stop a localized problem before it grows into a full-line failure.

Best for:

Isolated cracks, breaks, offset joints, root intrusion.

Method:

Structural repair sleeve, set on a packer.

Cure:

Ambient, heat, or UV — matched to the job.

Standards:

ASTM F1216 / NASSCO compliant.

Point repair vs. spot repair

Is there a difference?

Short answer: not really. “Point repair” and “spot repair” are two names for the same thing — a trenchless, structural repair to one isolated section of pipe. The industry uses the terms interchangeably, and so do we.

If anyone draws a line between them, it’s loose: “spot repair” sometimes refers to the smallest single-defect fix, while “point repair” may describe a slightly longer defined section. Either way, the method is the same, and we’ll recommend the right length and approach after we see the pipe. Don’t get hung up on the label — get the defect assessed.

Why a targeted repair

Economical

Pay to fix one section, not to line or replace the whole run.

Fully Structural

A structural repair sleeve that bonds to the host pipe and lasts.

Fast Installation

Most repairs are completed in a single visit — often in hours.

Low Disruption

No excavation and minimal disruption above ground.

One bad section? Don't replace the whole line.

How a repair is installed.

01

Inspect & Locate

A high-resolution camera locates and measures the defect.

02

Clean & Prep

Clean the line and prep the damaged section for the sleeve.

03

Set & Cure

Position the resin sleeve on a packer and cure it in place.

04

Verify & Document

A final camera pass confirms a structural, water-tight repair.

A Single Spot Repair That Saved a Full Pipe Replacement

A camera inspection found one cracked section in an otherwise sound line. Instead of lining or replacing the whole run, we set a structural repair sleeve at the defect and cured it in place — fixed in a single visit, no excavation, full camera documentation.

Common questions

Expand for terminology, method, and documentation.

In practice, none — they’re two names for the same thing: a trenchless, structural repair to one isolated section of pipe. The industry uses the terms interchangeably. Where any distinction is drawn, “spot repair” tends to mean the smallest single-defect fix and “point repair” a slightly longer defined section, but the method is identical. We’ll recommend the right length after a camera inspection.

When the pipe is structurally sound except for one or a few isolated defects. If the damage is localized, repairing just that section is faster and far cheaper than lining or replacing the whole run. If defects are widespread, full-length lining is usually the better long-term call — we’ll tell you straight which one your pipe needs.

Most point and spot repairs are completed in a single visit — often within hours, depending on cure method and access. We confirm the timeline before we start.

Installed to ASTM F1216 / F1743 standards using NASSCO-compliant methods. Pre- and post-installation camera documentation provided for your records and inspectors.
